Bacon-Level Commitment: How True Success Requires More Than Just Involvement

We never know what morning conversation in the Barker kitchen will bring and this week was certainly no different. Our dear Charleston is forever a surprise; a powerful combo of witty charm and old soul wisdom. With her sparkly blue eyes framed by curtains of often mis-placed long blonde hair, Charleston often surprises us with quips that seem far beyond years. Yesterday as I filled water bottles and gathered snacks she clanged her fork against the bowl and looked up from her scrambled eggs with a question in her eyes. "Mom, have you ever heard the story about the chicken and the pig at breakfast?"
Her 13 year old forever ravenous brother, busy making bacon disappear, paused and looked our way. Charleston continued with a smile, “The chicken's involved, but the pig? He's COMMITTED!" She laughed pointing to her brother's plate.
We giggled as Hudson's face looked back, stunned. But even after they left, the parable I remember hearing echoed in my mind. A simple illustration but on that hit home the idea that while the concepts are often used somewhat interchangeably, they are vastly different. It's one thing to be involved in our own personal growth and wellness journey, but true success? That requires bacon-level commitment. The kind where you're not just in the game, but you're playing full out. Because, let's face it, in the journey of life, bacon-level commitment tends to yield the most flavorful results. ;)
